CALL FOR PUPPET THEATRE WORKSHOPS

Puppet theatre has always been linked to theatre for children and young people in its purely artistic, pedagogical and even therapeutic aspects. We are sure that many of the participating groups in the ASSITEJ World Congress have unique knowledge and experiences that they will want to share. That is why El Arca, Teatro-Museo de Títeres, offers its house, premises and tools for creators who wish to give workshops related to puppet theatre for all ages. Workshops can be for children, adults or students and may explore any aspect of puppetry including design, construction, animation, dramaturgy or other specialties.

Those interested should send us a brief description of the activity, material needs, target age group and maximum number of participants.

Given that we have a National School of Puppetry and Children’s Theatre, it is of great interest to us that some of the workshops are aimed at our students, all aged between 14 and 20. For them it will be an invaluable opportunity and a unique experience which will broaden their knowledge and introduce them to other aesthetics.  We look forward to and welcome your proposals.

CALL FOR MUSEUM PUPPETS

Puppets can not only tell stories through performance. Without even moving they can tell the story of a people, an art form, a tradition or ritual, whether ancient or modern. Their materials, their workmanship, their features, the hands that made them, the place and time where they were born – all speak. That is why there are puppet museums devoted to caring for these fragile yet powerful creatures. This is the reason for the existence of our Museum El Arca, sponsored by the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana and the Directorate of Cultural Heritage. Our doors are open to all those attending the ASSITEJ World Congress who wish to bring a piece to be part of a collective exhibition that will be unique to this event. Puppets representative of your country’s craft and tradition, with identifying characteristics of a nation, will be especially welcome. It doesn’t matter if they are in bad condition – their wounds are part of the story they want to tell us and our team of restorers will take care of them. Puppets that, due to the relentless passage of time can no longer appear on the stage, will continue to converse with us from their display cabinets. Those wishing to take part in this project should send us a photo of the piece, its measurements in height x width x length and a brief description of its provenance and significance.

The festival aims to give children, young people and families in Wales (UK) the chance to see some of the world’s best theatre productions as well as give international programmers and producers the opportunity to experience the richness of Wales’ performing arts scene.

Performances, workshops and talks take place in the seaside town of Aberystwyth, the home of the festival, and in theatres across the country.

Established in 1996, the festival will be held for the 10^th time on 12-16 March 2024.

Cwmni Theatr Arad Goch will again offer a placement opportunity for an individual to join the festival team for two months. As part of a small team, they will assist with organising the festival, including providing producing and marketing support and liaising with companies, delegates, and venues.

We are not asking for expertise in a specific area, but enthusiasm and a passion for theatre are a must.

Accommodation and daily meal allowance for two months are included, as well as a contribution towards travelling costs.

Closing date for applications: Friday, 17 November 2023.

CONVOCATORIA TALLERES DE TEATRO DE TITERES

Se aproxima un nuevo Congreso Mundial de ASSITEJ. El teatro de títeres siempre ha estado vinculado al teatro para niños y jóvenes tanto en sus vertientes puramente artísticas como en las pedagógicas e incluso terapéuticas. Estamos seguros de que muchos de los grupos participantes tienen conocimientos y experiencias únicas que desearán compartir. Por eso El Arca, Teatro-Museo de Títeres, pone a disposición su casa, locales y herramientas para los creadores que deseen impartir talleres relacionados con el teatro de figuras para todas las edades. Los alumnos serán adultos, adolescentes o niños según lo estime el profesor. Diseño, construcción, animación, dramaturgia, pueden ser las especialidades a desarrollar.

Los interesados deberán enviarnos una breve descripción de la actividad, necesidades materiales, edades a las que se orienta y el número máximo de participantes.

Es de gran interés para nosotros, dado que contamos con una Escuela Nacional de Teatro de Títeres y para Niños, que alguno de los talleres sea dirigido a nuestros estudiantes, todos en edades entre los 14 y 20 años. Para ellos será una oportunidad invaluable de ampliar sus conocimientos y conocer otras estéticas, una experiencia única. Esperamos por sus propuestas. Sean desde ya bienvenidos.

CONVOCATORIA TITERES MUSEABLES

Los títeres no sólo pueden contar historias en un retablo. Ellos mismos, sin siquiera moverse, pueden relatar la historia de un pueblo, de una vertiente artística, de una tradición o ritual ya sea antiguo o moderno. Hablan sus materiales, su factura, sus rasgos, las manos que los fabricaron, el lugar y el tiempo donde nacieron. Es por eso que existen museos de títeres consagrados a cuidar de estas frágiles y a la vez poderosas criaturas. Es por eso que existe nuestro Museo El Arca, apadrinado por la Oficina del Historiador de La Ciudad de La Habana y la Dirección de Patrimonio Cultural. Nuestras puertas están abiertas a todos los asistentes a este Congreso Mundial de ASSITEJ que deseen traer una pieza para formar parte de una exposición colectiva que será inaugurada durante el evento. Serán bienvenidos especialmente los títeres representativos de sus países, con características únicas e identificativas de una nación. No importa que estén en mal estado, las heridas son parte de esa historia que quieren contarnos, además, nuestro equipo de restauradores se encargará de su cuidado. Títeres que, por el paso implacable del tiempo ya no pueden aparecer en la escena, continuarán conversando con nosotros en la tranquilidad de las vitrinas. Los que se sientan animados con este proyecto deberán enviarnos una foto de la pieza, sus medidas en alto x ancho x largo y una breve reseña de su procedencia y significación.

The ASSITEJ Magazine continues to be online, you can view the previous versions from 2022 and 2023.

The magazine articles will be published in English and the original language of the author. We will create a magazine that communicates through images, film and text. Both visuals and text should address the theme, Regenerating: embodying vision. We are aiming to regularly update this online magazine with new articles, from January 2024 until the opening of the Congress in May 2024.

This magazine calls for articles that envision the dramaturgy from numerous artistic perspectives. Some prompts might be:

• To embody our visions, what kinds of questions should we ask ourselves and the world around us?
• As a TYA artist or practitioner, how can you increase children’s and young people’s participation in this time of difficulties?
• How can we take action to regenerate the environment and society?
• What creative approaches can we employ to establish new connections with people worldwide, especially those whose voices are not heard, and bring them forward?
• How do you respond to the global call to challenge traditional methods of artistic creation and transition to new forms of artistic work?
• How can we support artists and theatres in conflict zones for their efforts to regenerate?
• How can theatre and performance for young people be utilized to bring about the changes we all aspire to see?
• What ideas can be explored to promote sustainable international exchange in the performing arts?

Articles should

• Be between 500-700 words (English) maximum and sent in Word and PDF (both), Times 12pt font.
• Include a title and the name of the author at the top, and a 25-word bio of the author at the end.
• Submissions should be in English and the original language of the author.
• Be accompanied by high quality photos in separate files from the article, TIFF preferred but JPEG is acceptable, the size of the files should not be less than 5 MB.
• The photos should be credited with the name of the photographer, company, and play or project.
• Or it could be a video film less than 5 min. with English subtitles.
• Or be a collection of photos and texts for a photo-essay style article.
• All files should be named by the last name of the author and country.

Deadline for submissions is 14 December 2023.
