After the extreme weather events that hit Haiti a few days ago, the artistic community is turning to humanitarian aid projects for the Caribbean country. Severely hit by a major earthquake, followed by a cyclone, in a short period of time, the Haitian population asks for help through civil society organizations. Hundreds of Haitian families have been affected, especially in the southern region of the country.
A partnership between ASSITEJ Cuba and CBTIJ/ASSITEJ Brasil, with the support of the Ibero-American Network of the International Association of Theater for Young Audiences (ASSITEJ), plans emergency fundraising actions. The amounts collected will be fully allocated to the emergency action plan of the ASSITEJ national center in Haiti.
The first action is an online theatre festival, with the participation of artistic collectives from several countries in the region. The companies are giving away the rights to exhibit their work during the event. More than 40 collectives have already joined the proposal, and others are expected to join in the coming days. Different artistic languages, in shows in Portuguese, Spanish and non-verbal language, integrate the diversified programming.
The festival “Theater embraces Haiti” takes place next Saturday and Sunday, August 28th and 29th.
Details about the schedule and links to access the artistic pieces are available in this Google Drive folder.
In Brazil, the form of contribution, of spontaneous value, and which will give full access to the virtual programming, for 48 hours, is via bank transfer. The Pix key for the online bank transfer is 09121995. The president of CBTIJ/ASSITEJ Brasil, Cleiton Echeveste de Oliveira, is in charge of this account.
